Fiber Analysis Module

Analyze fiber morphology—such as diameter and orientation—in SEM images (SE and BSE modes), light microscopy images, and topographic datasets.

Quantify individual fibers, regardless of whether they are isolated, touching, or overlapping.

Examine a wide variety of sample types using SEM (SE & BSE), light microscopy, or topographical data, including:

  • Electrospun nanofibers

  • Cellulose and other biological fibers (e.g., gelatin, muscle tissue)

  • Synthetic materials such as Kevlar, polyethylene, and glass fibers

  • Composite materials

  • Fibers collected in forensic investigations

  • Non-woven fibers used in filtration systems

  • Mineral fibers like asbestos

  • And more.

Automatically detect fibers and gaps using specialized algorithms designed for:

  • Light fibers on dark backgrounds

  • Dark fibers on light backgrounds

  • SEM-SE images (fibers with dark cores and bright edges)

  • SEM-BSE images (gray fibers on a gray background)

(All detection methods can be fine-tuned manually.)

Analyze fiber morphology and view results such as:

  • Histograms representing fiber diameter distribution

  • A comprehensive table listing parameters for each fiber and gap, including:

    • Mean, minimum, maximum, and standard deviation of fiber diameter

    • Average fiber orientation

    • Interstice diameter

Interactive navigation – click on a fiber or gap in the image to highlight the corresponding entry in the parameters table, or select a row in the table to locate it in the image.

Visualize the analysis steps, including:

  • The original image

  • Binarized version

  • Distance map (used to simulate topography and measure diameters)

  • Segmented view showing fiber contours and ridgelines from the distance map

Display output maps such as:

  • A diameter map showing variations in fiber thickness

  • A fiber orientation map using a circular color scale to indicate direction

Export both numerical data and visual outputs in various file formats.
